Saturn in Pisces / Virgo Full Moon - Protection for the High Seas?

As I write the Moon is Full in Virgo, emphasizing the Virgo-Pisces axis. Within the hour, Saturn will ingress into the watery sign of Pisces and likely will already be there by the time you read this.

We might expect that our seas will be in the news and indeed, yesterday the United Nations announced an historic agreement aimed at protecting marine diversity in international waters, those parts of the ocean known as the 'high seas.'

High seas, in maritime law, refers to all seas and oceans around the world that are not part of a nation's territory. By default, it is ocean without 'borders.' Of course, Pisces is about free flowing, open water and Saturn is all about borders. Saturn sailing through Pisces is going to be interesting.

Here is more on that story, but before you go, check out the AOAUK's latest podcast where Rod, Marcus and myself, discuss today's Full Moon and Saturn in Pisces, where we predict (figuratively), a sea change (the video is below).

By the way, our channel only needs 11 more subscribers to reach 1000, so we would love it if you helped us reach that milestone number.

But before you do that, a reminder that I'm currently offering discounts and lovely extra bonuses on personal astrology consultations

Here's a testimonial from a recent client:

"It was my first astrology session and I did not know what to expect but Mandi was really helpful and explained everything in an easy way. She has answered all my questions and was very understanding when I shared my personal issues.  The session was super interesting and I took a lot from the discussion that will be useful for the future. I would recommend Mandi to anyone."

Love and Full Moon Blessings,

Pisces New Moon - Surrender and Acceptance

Here in London we are being treated to beautiful morning mists which give way to gorgeous late winter sunshine. It's perfect weather for the season and for being in nature. Signs of spring are on their way. A bunch of pink crocuses have come up in my garden, their petals opening and closing with the sun. A single snowdrop has joined them.

Just over a year ago I adopted a very gentle cat. His name is Misty and yes, he loves the morning mist. His name came to me in a dream and then I was guided to my local cat shelter. A week later we brought Misty home. It was meant to be and together we have healed each other - him from the trauma of losing his former home and me from the grief of losing my beloved cat Milton.

I've been on a very Piscean journey these last few years, with several years of Neptune in Pisces transits to my mutable planets and points. There has been much loss and a long illness, but also a complete re-set of my life and my purpose. As a Capricorn Sun, letting go of the need to be productive and hard working, to control outcomes and to have a plan, was difficult. In the end the universe gave me no choice but to surrender to and accept what is, with the side effect of letting go of a lot of the grief, fear and anger I was barely aware I was holding.

Eventually, a strong sense began to come through that divine guidance has been supporting me all along and trying to point me in the right direction. Which is not to say I am in any way special, because this is available to all of us. In my case, I just wasn't listening for a long time, or perhaps didn't given myself the space to hear it.

It became easier when my secondary progressed Sun moved into Pisces, closely followed by my secondary progressed Moon in Pisces, my progressed New Moon. Which brings me to the upcoming Pisces New Moon on February 20. Perhaps part of the message of this New Moon is to look for where we might need more acceptance in our life, to accept that we can't control everything and might be better to go with the flow for a while.

A couple of weeks ago, I got together with the AOAUK team and we discussed the Pisces New Moon as well as the current transits around it. The link is below.

Very recently, I was guided towards healing modalities and I listened, after hearing the message a number of times. I was attuned to Reiki level II in 2007, and Reiki level I around a year before that. It was finally time for me to take the next step and I recently completed level III and am now a certified Usui/Holy Fire Reiki® Master. It was such a wonderful, life and spirit enhancing experience. I will shortly be offering Reiki treatments and distance healing, so watch this space.

In the meantime, I have some exciting new astrology consultation offerings, with opening discounts and special bonuses. See here for details: Astrology Consultations with Mandi Lockley

Empathy in the Birth Chart, Part 2

In Part 1, we defined empathy and saw how, when we are in defensive mode, empathy is not always possible. Concluding that empathy itself can’t be seen in the birth chart, we discussed, with an illuminating case study, how our chart aspects suggest where our empathy-blocking defences can kick in. In Part 2, more signifiers for defence mechanisms in the birth chart…

Saturn aspects suggest defence mechanisms because Saturn tests, blocks and controls. It represents where we have fears and doubts and lack confidence. All of these are fuel for our defences.

With Venus-Saturn, for example, there might be defences against getting hurt in relationships, manifesting in a fear of letting others get too close. The Venus-Saturn person therefore might un-empathetically hurt and reject someone else before it can be done to them. (See Part 1 for a case study example of how a generational Mercury Square Saturn played out).

Lack of empathy can also come through some of the aspects we might think of as easier. Jupiter types, for example, who are confident, upbeat and optimistic, can sometimes lack tolerance and empathy for those who are struggling with low self-esteem or who, for whatever reason, lack the faith, courage and self-belief to pursue their dreams and ambitions.

Aspect patterns are also a good place to look for defences, especially T-Squares, which so often describe the nitty gritty issues in a person’s life. Grand Trines are also associated with defence mechanisms, because they represent where we hesitate to step out of our comfort zone.

If we think about the zodiac signs, Aries types might lack empathy for those who aren’t fast-paced go-getters; Taurus or Libra might disapprove of Aries' need to be numero uno and label them as aggressive or selfish, not understanding the Aries mission to go through life as a warrior. A Gemini type might be unfairly labelled as someone who can’t commit to one thing, with others not getting that Gemini is here to experience variety and needs to keep their options open. And so on, through the signs…

Back to those sensitive Water signs mentioned in Part 1 and why they might not always necessarily be empathetic. It’s because that emotional sensitivity, if it gets too much, can be defended against to protect the Water person from pain and suffering. I recently watched a Netflix show about teen fairies learning to harness their powers. One of them was an empath, who wore headphones constantly to protect herself from becoming overwhelmed by the feelings of others. Sensitive humans can also feel overwhelmed by their empathy at times and that’s when their psychological defences can kick in, which while offering protection, but can also block empathy.

The Cancerian retreating into their shell is a well known astrological symbolism. Cancerians need to feel safe and at home. They are drawn to people who help them to feel comfortable and once they find them, they seek to keep them close. Whether it’s their blood family or the ‘family’ they choose, Cancerians need to feel cushioned by their relationships. However, this can lead to clannish cliques and those who don’t make it into Cancer’s close circle might feel rejected. This is where a defence might make someone else feel the hurt that the defended person is trying to protect themselves from. The hurt doesn’t go away, it’s just passed on.

Scorpio of course has its famous defensive sting. Using that sting to point out others’ flaws, often with merciless honesty, is Scorpio’s way of protecting themselves from such searing scrutiny. Last of all, we have compassionate, empathetic Pisces; but feeling everyone’s emotions as if they are their own can make porous, sensitive Pisces retreat into victim mode. When Pisces feels that nobody’s problems are as bad as theirs, it’s hard for them to feel empathy. Conversely, Pisces, with a genuine desire to stop someone’s suffering, might go into full rescue mode, but if this is done with pity rather than real empathy, the support they offer can feel dis-empowering.

These examples show that while you can’t judge levels of natural empathy from a chart, you can see areas where empathy might potentially be blocked. Astrology can help with self-understanding and the recognition of where we fall into our defences. We all need defences of course, they are very useful, but by becoming more aware of them we can potentially see where they have become unhelpful and where we might be unwittingly hurting others or not recognising when they might need support and compassion and empathy.

Astrology for February ~ Neptune swims into Pisces & Saturn in Libra's on the turn

February is upon us and with it has come some pretty chilly weather across parts of Europe. But what about the astrological weather this month?

February brings two big events, Neptune enters Pisces on February 4th and Saturn in Libra turns Retrograde on February 7th.

Neptune dipped its trident into Pisces back in April last year, before re-entering Aquarius in August. Now it settles in Pisces until 2026.

Neptune is the planet of illusion, dissolution, the dissolving of barriers and boundaries, meltdowns, glamour, scandals and collective emotional undercurrents. Pisces is the sign of compassion, imagination, spirituality, merging, yielding and the victim-saviour-martyr complex. Put them together and the possibilities are endless, indefinable, unfathomable.

See A Neptune in Pisces Miscellanea for more themes associated with Neptune in Pisces, based on its last stay there. It looks at fashion, compassion, watery technology and how we all need to be more sensitive to the feelings of others…

No doubt there’ll be more to come on Neptune in Pisces in the following weeks…

When Saturn turns retrograde in Libra on February 7th, take some time to consider how you came to be where you are right now. This could be an important step in the process of negotiating a way forward, even if it means taking a temporary step back.

To find out more about why this Saturn retrograde is an important one and how to do you your own personal Saturn review, see An Urgent Post about Saturn in Libra

See also Saturn in Libra through the Houses to find out which areas of life Saturn is prompting you to review.
February 7th also brings a Full Moon in Leo. New facts come to light under a Full Moon and emotions come to a head. We feel more sociable and keener to put ourselves under the spotlight.

Full Moons ask us to consider the issues of the opposing signs the Sun and Moon fall in. Together, Leo and Aquarius symbolize the need to balance the individual need for personal gain and acclaim with the need to help, support and be equal to everyone else. Aquarius shouldn’t deny Leo’s right to be king, but needs to insist that the king serves with integrity and honesty. Teamwork and delegation of authority is everything to Aquarius. Selfish greed is not acceptable. Aquarius teaches that it is through serving the group, the community, the team, our friends, that we gain the honour and significance that is so crucial to Leo. Conversely, Leo teaches Aquarius that sometimes you have to take the lead if the cause is important enough. Somebody has to stand up for the masses, rebel against the status quo and shake the system up if there is to be any chance of a lasting change for the better. An important message for our current times, I feel.

Later in February – on the 19th - the Sun moves into Pisces, immediately joining up with Neptune for what promises to be an emotionally sensitive few days, especially as this segues with the Pisces New Moon – the dark of the Moon – on February 21st.

By the time the New Moon comes around, we’ll feel the need for a bit of R&R and TLC. Slow down, sleep, dream, listen to your intuition, send out healing thoughts, sing, dance, create something beautiful. Go with the flow. The time to act on plans will be after this New Moon, but bear in mind that both Saturn and Mars are retrograde so it might take a little longer to put your plan into action or to see the results of your efforts.

For more insights into Pisces see: Pisces Quotes: Woundrous Words of Feelings and Pisceans In Their Own Words
For dates and details of all the Moon’s phases this month, see The Moon Pages at Astroair Astrology.

Here, you will also find February’s Void of Course Moon Times. The basic premise is that if you attempt to do something important under a Void of Course Moon nothing will come of it. It’s not a theory to plan every little detail of your life by, but I’ve found it a useful tool for planning important events and making crucial decisions. Find out more here. The Void of Course Moon chart also shows when the Moon changes signs (which happens approximately every two and a half days).

Enjoy February, which this year – being a Leap Year – gives us an extra bonus day!

With love

Red Shoes and Razor Blades

Just a quickie…

I tried to buy a pair of cute red shoes yesterday, but they'd sold out in my size. Later on, I went to the pub and saw at least half a dozen people wearing red shoes. Perhaps they are subconsciously channelling all the current Aries and Pisces energy…

…Red (Aries) Shoes (Pisces - rules the feet)

This morning, I opened the bathroom cabinet to get some shoe spray (Pisces) and a packet of razor blades (Mars – rules sharp objects) fell on my head (Aries – rules the head). It made me see red! (Mars - anger)

Here are a few beautiful, compassionate, insightful words from some well known fishes...the quotes also reflect their Moon signs...Enjoy!

There are some people who have the quality of richness and joy in them and they communicate it to everything they touch. It is first of all a physical quality; then it is a quality of the spirit.

New Moon in Pisces

Pisces by Josephine Wall

March 4: New Moon in Pisces ~ New Ideals

The dark of the Moon is a good time to pause, rest and plan for the month ahead. This New Moon is sandwiched between Chiron and Mars on one side and Mercury and Uranus on the other, all of them in impressionable, idealistic Pisces. This is a lunation for feeling at one with the world, but it could be an emotionally overwhelming one.

Here are some suggestions for this New Moon:

Sleep!
Listen to your dreams and intuitions.
Practice random acts of kindness.
Go with the flow.
Send out healing thoughts.
Use meditation to slow down your mind.
Stay flexible and open minded.
Use gentle persuasion to get your way rather than being forceful and direct.
Don’t believe everything you’re told!
Sing and dance
Write Poetry

Have a great Pisces New Moon

With love,
Mandi

Pisces New Moon - Wish Upon A Star

Slide show by Lone Star

When I thought of the Pisces New Moon, the wonderful old song When You Wish Upon a Star came to mind.

There is a lovely build up of planets in Pisces in the New Moon chart - Mercury, Jupiter and Uranus join the Sun and Moon, guiding us towards some intuitive, inspirational breakthroughs.

Have a little faith, wish upon a star and dare to live your dream.

Lots of love,
Mandi

Virgo Full Moon - How Can I Help?

If you ask one question this Full Moon, it should be How can I help?

It doesn’t matter if you’re asking yourself, another person or the universe and it doesn’t matter if you’re not sure what you’re asking. Under the Full Moon, things tend to come to light easily, so just ask the question with positive intent and see what occurs to you.

Why this question? Why now? Well, because this Full Moon puts the spotlight on the signs of Virgo and Pisces and as an opposing pair they address the issue of service.

There are lots of ways to serve, to help. There is practical service, literally doing something; spiritual service such as prayer, meditation and contemplation; service to yourself, including rest, recuperation and a bit of self-TLC and service to other individuals or groups such as lending a helping hand, listening, or just simply showing that you care.

The Full Moon is helped by Jupiter in Pisces conjunct the Sun. Jupiter is very happy in Pisces, like an honoured guest, where he can easily bring out the most positive expression of the Virgo and Pisces combination - helpfulness, kindness, compassion and empathy. Jupiter in this placement also reminds us that we are all connected and in asking the simple question, how can I help, we learn that when we help others, if we do so sincerely, we also help ourselves and vice versa.

This is also a wonderful Full Moon energy for creative and humanitarian work, carrying as it does a Venus-Uranus conjunction in Pisces and a Mercury-Neptune conjunction in Aquarius.

I hope you enjoy the Full Moon in Virgo, let me know if I can help.

Pisceans - In Their Own Words

As the Sun moves into Pisces, instead of describing what Pisceans are supposed to be like, I thought I’d let them speak for themselves, so here are some true-life quotes from six wonderful Piscean people who have passed through my life.

I’ve never had much money, but what I have had, I just give it away. I always find that when I need money it comes to me.

That’s not enough wine to get us through the evening!
[putting another four bottles into the supermarket trolley]

I’ve sent you a link to a jobs website to send to him. We all have to stick together when times are hard like this [the link was for a friend of mine who she’d never even met]

I’m growing this super-skunk, I’m going to make my fortune!

I’m calling you to find out if you’re OK. Are you OK? Are you sure? Firing you was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do!

I met this guy on a train, he’d just got out of prison and had all his things in a black bin liner. I gave him my number because I felt sorry for him and now he won’t stop calling me…

Enjoy the Sun in Pisces.

With affection,
Mandi

Pisces Full Moon: The Last Dance of Summer

On 4th September, just a couple of days before Mercury goes Retrograde, the Moon is Full in Pisces.

There’s something ethereal and otherworldly about the idea of a Pisces Full Moon. An image comes to mind of a blissfully intoxicated celebration, a total letting go, an ecstatic dance, at one with nature, absorbing the potent energy of the Moon’s brightness, like Sylvie the Moongazy Girl in the wonderful Stonewylde novels.

By its very nature (marked astrologically by an opposition aspect between the Sun and Moon) we must engage totally with others and they with us during the Full Moon time and in Pisces we can also connect universally, as the boundaries between the worlds seem to dissolve and we feel as if we can see forever.

However, being an opposition, the other energies with which we must find compromise under this Full Moon are the energies of the Sun in Virgo. A balance between the chaos of Pisces and the order of Virgo must be found. This is a time to be giving and helpful, kind and compassionate. A time to give or to seek help. A time for service, even sacrifice. A time for purification, a time to connect with spirit, if that is your leaning.

If you are in tune and willing to do the work, you will find that the energies of this Full Moon are but another step on your journey towards expanded consciousness. I have been discussing this process for some time in my blog and on my website, in particular around the recent Lunar Eclipses, the Solar Eclipse and the ongoing Jupiter-Neptune-Chiron conjunctions.

Click on the links above if you want to read more, but in summary, these energies have been about letting go of what we don’t need (be it our emotional baggage, our self-limiting mindsets, the way we work, our relationships, the outdated causes we have served etc.) so that we can move forward with our purpose.

Sometimes it seems as if we have barely had a chance to heal and make the necessary adjustments before the next thing comes along, such is the apparent sense of urgency in the air these past few months, a sense of urgency which is coming to a head once again as Saturn and Uranus meet again in exact opposition mid-month, dragging mighty Pluto, who is right back at the start of Capricorn into a T-Square with it. A corner will be turned and many of us will start to come into our power. More on the Saturn-Uranus-Pluto alignment in an upcoming blog.

During this Full Moon time, watch what you say because with Mercury in Libra’s irritable square to Mars in Cancer, spilling your thoughts too readily on others could cause friction and might mean you have to take it all back anyway when Mercury goes Retrograde a couple of days afterwards.

Instead, draw on the spirit of the Pisces Moon and say what you have to say with kindness and compassion, then accept the invitation of Venus in Leo, who is asking you to bask and play a little while longer in the mellow afterglow of the long, hot summer.

Enjoy the dance.
This Full Moon will resonate most strongly with you if you are a Pisces, Virgo, Gemini or Sagittarius, particular if you were born in early March, early September, early June or early December, or if you have other planets or points at 9-13 degrees of the mutable signs.
